Current Hair Faves

Hi guys!

I haven’t done one of these posts in a very long time! I think the last one may have been when I first started dip-dying my hair… Anyway, lets get into the products that I am loving at the moment!

Bleach London Rose Collection;

Surprise surprise, these products are still up here! I have been dying my hair the rose shade for a good 18 months solid now, and my hair is still in such good condition, but I will discuss that in a little bit more detail below. The Shampoo and conditioner are great! They are perfect for when I don’t particularly have time to dye my hair but it gives you a lovely rose hue. You have to leave both on for approximately 5 minutes each ideally (It’s perfect for lazy washing your hair in the bath, whilst watching Youtube videos!). The dye is lovely. I generally leave it on for roughly 30 – 45 minutes depending on how bright I want the pink to develop. Highly recommend wrapping yourself up in tinfoil… Trust me. I also love the dye because it doesn’t leave a horrible smell in your hair and it also leaves your hair feeling pretty soft as it almost feels like a conditioner when you are applying it. All in all, I love these products as I can purchase all three for roughly £18… I do believe that Bleach are currently altering their colours, so I think I may have to go over to their Fuschia dye moving forward, as their Rose has lost its pink tint in my opinion.

Schwarzkopf got2b Happy Hour hair spray

I cannot tell you how long I have been using this hairspray. I think I found it by accident… Anyway, it is super cheap, at £3 a can. It smells incredible, literally like sherbet and not that horrible acidic hair spray smell that other sprays have. I only use hair spray when I am curling my hair, even then it is sparingly. However, this is a perfect product for my hair as it is super light weight and brushes out really easily.

Dry Shampoo:

Soap & Glory The Rushower Scent-Sational Dry Shampoo 200mlNot Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo 205 ml (Pack of 2)

Now, as an ultimate lazy girl who loves a good life hack, dry shampoo is a fundamental part of my life. My hair takes a good hour to blow dry and even longer to leave to dry naturally, so I have to really commit when I’m washing it. But honestly, some days it just isn’t feasible, and I certainly can’t wash it prior to work or if I have to go out too early in the day. With this in mind, I have had a stable favourite dry shampoo for a good few years now, and that  is Not Your Mothers. I tend to bulk buy this when I go to the US, or generally when ever anyone I know is going I ask if they can bring me some back. Yes, I can get it on Amazon (see the link below) but I am not willing to pay over £20 for a single can when I pick them up for $4 a can! So I’m always desperately searching for a way to make four cans last 12 months. It’s safe to say that I was super excited when I heard that Soap and Glory were bringing out a hair care range. I have always loved soap and glory products so it was guaranteed that I was going to be checking out their hair care. Let me introduce you to The Rushower (see the Rush Hour pun there, one of my fave films). This is the closest UK equivalent that I have found to the Not Your Mothers one. It doesn’t dry my scalp out of leave any of that awful white residue on your scalp. At a maximum of £4, The Rushower is definitely becoming a firm favourite. I have just checked the Boots website and it is currently out of stock…

Violet Shampoo (and Conditioner):

Being a natural, and partially fake blonde, I am constantly looking for a way to try to take the yellow tone off it. I am currently loving the slightly more ashy tone on myself with my pink tint, so I’m heavily into the violent shampoo trend. The first one I started using was the Avon set, and it was definitely a winner – it has kept my hair such a lovely, warm, ashy colour. Here we are again at the launch of the Soap and Glory hair care range. The range also includes a violet shampoo, do we see what’s going on here?! The Avon one definitely does a good job, but I did notice a massive difference in my own natural colour after using the N-Ice and Bright product once. My hair is not dyed all over and I do think the Avon system struggled more with lightening my natural colour which is more of a dirty, dark blonde.  I have also been using the Soap and Glory Wonditioner.  Both Soap and Glory Products have, what I call, the typical Soap and Glory smell, which makes them even more appealing to me.

Honestly, if you are a blonde, natural or not so natural, or even just someone with curly hair I would highly recommend these products to anyone!

I’m intrigued, what are your favourite hair care products?

How To Survive The Winter In An Office Job

Hi Guys!

So, unlike some fashion bloggers, I still have a full time office job, which is often why my posts are sporadic at best. Being able to find a balance between my love of fashion and being work appropriate can sometime’s be a little difficult, but that is why I thought I would take you through a few of the key pieces within my work wardrobe…
Check Culottes:

These. Are. My. FAVE!

I wear these trousers at least once a week, and have in fact bought a second week in case of a catastrophe. They’re super comfy and have a paper bag waist which is super flattering. I generally pair these with either my Dr. Marten boots or my star ankle boots (both faves also) and a simple cold shoulder t-shirt. There are a lot of variations on this pattern, like a more straight forward, cigarette trouser (which I also have).
Cold Shoulder Tops:

Now, I know a lot of women/girls love to wear a good blouse with a strong pair of trousers. I can’t stand blouses. I just don’t find them comfortable and if I’m honest, I find them rather bland. That is why I love a good cold shoulder tee instead. A tee is way comfier, and the little shoulder cut away helps me bring a little bit of my fashion edge to my work wear wardrobe. I don’t own the above tee, but am now totally lusting after it now that I have seen it. As a rule, I do find that New Look and Dorothy Perkins are way up the charts in terms of these tops, as they seem to get the proportions and materials just so right.
Trusty Dresses:

Tall Mixed Houndstooth Check Pinafore Dress

Someday’s you just want to make a bit more of an effort, or in my case you have stomach ache and can’t face the thought of trousers. In comes a few trusty, comfortable, preferably slightly A-line dresses. I love a good A-Line dress because it stills shows off my waist whilst hiding the bloat that is normally going on underneath. I am lusting after both of these dresses, both have a very 60’s vibe, and I am loving the collar on the Dorothy Perkins dress. As you can probably tell by now, I do tend to stick to a rather monochromatic wardrobe throughout the winter, but I would love to do another version of this in the summer. Oh how things change…
Some Good Shoes…

Now, I may work in an office, but I cannot think of anything worse than wearing a pair of heels day in day out. That’s why I have a few safe bets that I absolutely adore.

Rockport Brogues:

Rockport Women's Total Motion Abelle Wing Tip Trainers, (Black), 3 UK 36 EU

Now these may not be the most gorgeous shoes, but they are so flipping comfortable! They have a flex sole in so they make a day at work so much easier!
Ankle Boots:

These boots are flipping gorgeous! These are not the one’s I own however I have featured mine a few times on my Instagram (go check them out!) I love anything with a star pattern on, I can’t explain it, it’s just sort of my thing…

Dr Marten’s:

By now, you should have realised that I’m not your typical power female dresser, and yes I do regularly wear Dr Marten’s to work, they’re my thing. I would live in them if I could. Once they’ve been broken in they are so comfortable and I just think they look so smart. And in this case, you really do get what you pay for!

It’s safe to say all of these items, or those similar to the ones listed here, have had more than their fair share of wear this winter. I am an outfit recycler, what can I say? Once I find something I love, I wear it and re-wear it.

Hope you’ve enjoyed!

Review: Body Positive Power – Megan Jayne Crabbe

Hi guys,

This is the first of, hopefully, many book reviews that will be coming your way in the foreseeable future. I’ve powered through quite a few books in the past six months, however this was one that took me a while…

This is nothing to do with the way that the book is written, but the topic that it covers. I think this book is such an important read for any young women. This is the point at which I would normally say “regardless of whether you have been affected by…” but this covers topics that are impacting the lives of every human on earth! To name but a few, Megan goes into great detail regarding;

  • media manipulation
  • social media (and it’s misconceptions)
  • the flawed diet industry
  • mental health and the long term implications

I have always thought that I was pretty aware of social media, and it’s “highlight’s reel” functionality, however the further I got into this book, I realised how easily people, including myself, have been and are being dragged into the social media “claims”.

This book, amongst others that will get their time in the spotlight, have helped me step into the new year with a completely different mindset. Now, this isn’t some “new year, new me” crap. In fact, it is quite the opposite. I’m learning to love the real me, as I am. No more caddy weight loss incentives or fitness challenges. The more I read, the more I realising how much have been affected by the diet culture from a relatively early age and feeling term effects that thieves had on my life, mental health and outlook on life.

In this book, we are being taught not to apologise for taking up space in the world, or for our thoughts, feelings and views. This is a book that, I feel, every young person who wants to change their world should read.

I implore you to order this book and add it to the top of your to be read pile.

New Year, New Me…But Not As We Know It…

Hi guys!

I know it’s been a while, but I have been incredibly busy in the run up to Christmas and with various family occasions. I’ve also been doing a fair amount of “soul searching” (gosh, I hate that word). I’ve got a lot of blog posts in the pipe line, I’m planning to write a lot of books reviews. Basically, I am turning a new page, my gosh to cliche’s are rolling out today.

Basically, my 2019 will be the year of being more financially responsible/stable, more enjoyment and the year of me. I’m intending to completely overhaul my view on life and make more time for my own well being and enjoyment. This isn’t a commitment to a “diet” or some faddy fitness regime. This is working on my own outlook and lifestyle for good.

My mental health took a hit in 2018, it felt like the longest yet fastest year of my life. I sure am glad to see the back of it. I am feeling incredibly optimistic about this year. We started the year as we mean to go on. On New Years Day we flew out to Amsterdam for five days. This was the first proper city break we have been on together, and it was incredible. I think I have well and truly fallen in love with this city, and we will be back soon!

This will be the first blog post coming up this month, an Amsterdam guide.

Thank you to those of you who are still following me after so many false starts, but I really am hoping to stick to it this year.

Holiday Essentials

Hi Guys!

I know I’m dragging this whole “I’ve been on holiday” vibe out now, but honestly, I spend most of my days wishing I was back on my sunbed with a cocktail in hand… hey ho, another year of working and saving! I thought since we’re hitting peak holiday season, that it would be useful to show you guys some of the products that I think are an absolute must when going away!

Aussie Gold SPF 30 with Instant Bronzer Gel
My mom has sworn by this sun cream for so long, and I finally bought some myself this year, as I am finally beginning to tan! It smells incredible, it isn’t greasy and it doesn’t stain clothes. It definitely helps you to achieve a lovely, golden glow, even on the fairest of people like me.

Aloe Vera Gel/Aftersun
Now, it’s not something that I am proud of, but I do regularly burn/go an iffy shade of red. This year, it was whilst quad biking, not even sunbathing. Anyway, Aloe Vera gel is easily the most popular health/cosmetic product on the island of Lanzarote, it is literally in every shop you enter. I had after sun with me, but it wasn’t really doing the trick, and I have used Pure Aloe in the past. Honestly, if you’re fair, or even just want to retain your tan for longer, I would highly recommend using a product similar to this. It smells lovely and fresh, however they can be a little bit sticky and I wouldn’t recommend trying to get dressed for a good half an hour after application. Honestly, this sort of product is to thank for my tan this year.

A Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner
I am a proper water baby, even at 21. So, as a semi unnatural blonde, my hair suffers in the water and sunlight. This is why I always take a deep hydrating shampoo and conditioner away with me. My favourite two at the moment are Aussie Miracle Moist or Garnier Ultimate Blends Coconut Water . Both of these products work really well on my hair, and prevent it from looking and feeling like straw!

Packing Cubes

A friend of mine told me about these a couple of years back, and I honestly think I would be lost without mine now! They make packing and unpacking so easy! I tend to co-ordinate what is in each pouch, as they are various sizes. I have ones that are small enough to handle my hair products and face products, right up to ones that I use to pack Short and t-shirt/vest combinations, even playsuits end up in them. It honestly makes life so much easier!

Birkenstocks – Arizona
I’m virtually certain I have featured these on the blog before, but honestly they are the comfiest shoes I have ever owned. I know that Birkenstocks are a little bit pricey in comparison to other shoes on the market, but they are completely worth the money. Think of them as an investment.  These are quite a bold shoe, but you can get them in far less out there colours. They do feel rather tough at first, but they do mould to the shape of your foot eventually, which is what makes them so flipping comfortable!

I’ve included links to everything I can or similar products, so I hope you’ve found this useful!

What are your holiday essentials?

June Favourites!

Hi guys!

This is my first post since being back in the UK and having over-hauled my blog, again. I hope you guys are liking the new look! Anyway, lets get into the products I have been loving this month!

The Body Shop Face Mists:

I had seen so much about these products that I actually attempted to order them roughly the end of May, only to receive an email from The Body Shop to tell me they had cancelled my order due to lack of stock! Then I didn’t have chance to get to a Body Shop store before my holiday, so I tried a store in Lanzarote with no success. I finally managed to track them down during a shopping spree over my first weekend back in the country. Honestly, due to the heat, these have been miniature life savers, all for their own different reasons. When I purchased these in store, they were on a 3 for 2 offer, so the three only cost me £12!

Cooling Coconut

During the heat, my skin can become incredibly red and sore. I’ve been applying this spray twice a day, when I first get up and before I go to bed. It really does instantly take the redness out of my skin, and also a fair amount of the heat. I instantly fell in love with this product before I had even used it purely based on the coconut smell! Honestly, it is such a lovely product to use on your skin.

Rose Dewy Glow

So, I’m actually using all three of these products at different points during my make up process of a morning. Rose Dewy gets spritzed across my cheek bones once my foundation has settled, sometimes in place of or on top of my Barry M Liquid Highlighter Drops. Honestly, it just gives you such a gentle, summery glow that is perfect for a warm day at work.

Mint Mattifying

Mint is the last product to join the party. Once all of my make up is on, I leave my mascara to dry for 5-10 minutes, and then give my whole face a spritz with this one. I love this one as I use a fairly full coverage foundation that wears all day, but I do often get a shine on my forehead and chin. This is wonderful! It instantly almost sets your foundation, and is preventing my mid-afternoon shine from appearing even in this crazy heat we are currently experiencing in the UK!

Kurt Geiger Saff London Tote Bag and Purse:

I AM OBSESSED! Yes, the capitals were necessary. I first spotted this bag long before I went on holiday, however at it’s full price, I couldn’t bring myself to buy it, because I have a thing for matching purses as well and the combination was one that I just could not afford at the time. However, we went to the Touchwood Store the weekend after our holiday, and I spotted that the purse had been reduced to £40! But I couldn’t see the handbag. Next thing I know, I spot my boyfriend, with the handbag, wondering towards the till! The handbag was reduced to £99. These may seem like a high end spend, but I work hard for what I buy, and this is a handbag that will be used very regularly as it is so me! It is already my everyday handbag and purse!

UTAN & Tone Coconut Tanning Water:
I have been meaning to invest in this product for a while, as I have seen such good reviews of it online. I struggle to tan naturally, and then I just can’t cope with fake tan as I always end up streaky! I actually managed to tan a fair bit, for me, whilst away this year, so I have bought this to build on my natural base tan, just to keep a summery, golden glow. The smell of this is incredible! It has a lovely coconut smell, and also contains aloe essence. You can feel it cooling your skin within minutes of applying. I have used this on my face, chest and arms and it is super easy to apply. I did have a slight patch on my shoulder where I had peeled but a bit of baby oil and a skin scrubbing brush did the trick! I would recommend this product to anyone!!

Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo and Conditioner:

I bought a travel size version of the conditioner to take away with me, because my hair struggles with the heat, due to being naturally curly/wavy. I honestly think these products are a necessity for my hair, because I have, in the past, let it get to the point where I just can’t do anything with it! These products stop my hair from feeling brittle and becoming fluffy. I came back with seriously fluffy hair going on, so this was a necessary purchase to get my hair back under control. After a week back in England, my curls are back and safe!

Lush Dream Cream:

I bought this when we got back as I was suffering with some sun burn. I had been using pure aloe vera lotion whilst away but was fed up of the stickiness of it by the time we got back. I can never praise Lush staff enough, we went in and I explained my issue and the staff could not help enough. They gave really good advice and asked really detailed questions in order to advise the best product. I have never used this before, but honestly I am now a little bit obsessed! I popped it in the fridge and honestly I have never known a product work so well on the after product of sun burn! I love it just as an everyday moisturiser as well!

May Faves

Hi guys!

So this is me sticking to my new pursuit of setting aside time each week to post at least once, if not twice, on here. I’m breaking myself back in easily as I will be away for two weeks in the middle of June but I am hoping to post at least one more post before my holiday. Here’s a round up of some of the items I have been loving over the past couple of months (my last faves post was February?!)
Black and White Converse Sneakers:

I have owned my fair share of Converse over the years (my favourites have to be my Blondie converse). However, I have never owned a pair of these ones. I bought these from Footasylum for £49.99. I love these more so than my high tops because I can wear them with outfits such as culottes as they’re a little less bulky than high tops.

Silver Birkenstocks

I’ve had a few pairs of the rubber Birks, but not a cork pair. I had seen Helen Anderson post about this colour a while back and I had been obsessed with the idea of such a bold sandal. Honestly, I am obsessed. I admit that Birks do feel a little bit uncomfortable to begin with but that is because you have to break the mould to the shape of your foot. Once they have been worn in a little bit, they are incredibly comfortable and I have basically lived in these when I haven’t been at work. I think I paid about £55 for them from Amazon, however you may be able to get them cheaper elsewhere as shoe prices on Amazon do fluctuate a little bit.

Barry M Liquid Chrome Highlighter

So, I’m a little bit late to the highlighter party because I’ve always been a little bit afraid of using it. I noticed this in Boots the other day when I was purchasing my trusty primer, so I thought why not give it a try, especially since there is a great deal on at Boots which is buy 1 get 1 half price at the moment. It has a little pipette applicator which is great, and makes it so easy to use. I also love the fact that there is a hint of colour to the highlighter as well which adds to the dewy, natural glow that I love to create.

Half Way There…

So here we are, half way through 2018. I can safely say that this has already been one hell of a year. There have been some incredible highs, and some serious low’s, but I’m still fighting. I just thought I would let you guys in on what is going on in my head at this current point in time.

  1. I fell out of love with blogging
I know this happens to a lot of people, but I’m serious. I originally started my blog so that I could write about the things that I love, and hopefully find people that would listen and contribute about the topics I love. I felt like I was making some serious headway in the blogging world, and then I realised that I had failed to take off. I know that people say it is somewhat of a cut throat game, but sometime’s it really hurts when you have put time and effort in to a post, for it to only get a handful of views. And this seems to be the same on Instagram. Regardless of how many hastags you put on a post, the reach just doesn’t seem to be there anymore. This is why I’m intending to come back bigger and better than ever after my holiday. I am hoping that two weeks away will give me some motivation to push on harder than ever.
  2. I’ve had to work on my health, both physical and mental
This year has seen me suffer possibly the worst illness I have ever had, and I’m still not quite right. I’ve ended up on quite a few different tablets to try and get me back to full strength, but it’s taking a while. Physical illness can have a massive impact on mental illness. Recently, my anxiety has sky rocketed which is another reason the blog has taken a back burner. There are good days and there are bad days, but it’s getting easier.
  3. I’m coming back to the blog, because I have realised just how much I still love music and fashion
My inner 15 year old has reared her head recently. I’m discovering new music, and still trying to find my place in the world. I would love nothing more than to end up working for a record label, or a fashion magazine or high-street brand. At almost 22, in this scary world, I’ve almost began to feel like I’ve missed my chance to achieve these dreams. I know that the city I live in is limited in regards to the two industries, but so much work is done online and remotely now that in some ways it is becoming less and less of an issue. So, this is my first step towards my new dream.

This may sound like a slightly random post, but it was something I felt like I had to get off of my chest. Maybe nobody will read it, but then again maybe it will be my post with the highest views, who knows. But, I’m ready to work my butt off to get there.

March Review!

Hi guys!

Apologies for the awful lack of posting this month, it’s been a strange one! However, I have discovered some truly amazing products this month, not just necessarily beauty products!

Essential Oil Diffuser:

So I was talking to a friend last month about the fact that I am struggling to sleep a lot. I had tried a few things like lavender pillow spray, however none of it seems to work. I was told that these things work magic, and to be honest, I wholeheartedly agree! I bought my one from Avon on a whim, for £15 – but then I found a much better, brighter one on Amazon. I love the fact that it also has a mood light built in! I ordered a bottle of lavender essential oil from Amazon which was only £3! Honestly, this has made the world of difference to my sleep!
This is the link to the one I bought from amazon:

The one below is my one;

Elegant Touch Nails:

I bought these as a matter of desperation because I needed a quick fix before going out! I ran into Boots and bought these for £7.46. This shade is Chrome 2.0 Violet Vixen. I am obsessed! They are super easy to apply, and all you need to do is file the very tip of them down as they are a little bit rough. These are the most gorgeous shape and shade and these are supposed to last 10 days so I will update when I see how long they last!

Marble Handled Make Up Brushes:

These were actually bought at the very end of last year, but I had completely forgotten about them. However, I needed a new brush for a new product the other day, so I pulled one of these out. They are completely synthetic, but they do not feel horrid, they are super soft on your skin and they transfer product really easily. They’re £8 for the set of 10 with the travel bag.

Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara:

I first heard about this product prior to its launch due to a fabulous vlog from Jamie Genevieve. Then I received a sample of it in the March Birchbox. I have honestly never been so obsessed with a mascara! I don’t have particularly short lashes and never wear false lashes, but this gives you such long, individual eyelashes, it is incredible! I am fully intending to buy the full size product!

These are just a few of the things I am loving at the moment, however I am on somewhat of a spending ban at the moment in an attempt to save money!

February Faves – 2018

Hey guys!

So, here we are! January has been an exhausting, ridiculously long month and then February was gone in a flash!. But, here we are, the beginning of March! I am honestly so happy that January and February are over. Anyway, it was somewhat slow in terms of new products, considering, but I did kind of put myself on a spending ban. So this post is a bit difficult to write but lets see what we can find.
GlamGlow:

I have never tried a Glamglow mask before, but I had seen such good things about these that I had to find a way to try one of them before committing to the £40ish price label. Thank you Boots! I found a sample set in the Boots sale and thought I would give it a go. I used the pure cleanser one and I tried the anti ageing one out on my mom. The Cleanser is very dark when first applied but dries to a grey colour. I honestly don’t think my skin has ever felt so clean! The anti ageing one however is like pure glitter! It’s incredible! My mom did comment on the fact that her skin felt far tighter than beforehand and it did look notably more firm. It’s a yes from me on both fronts.
YSL – Black Opium Glowing:

Opium defined my childhood because my mom constantly wore it, to the point that I couldn’t stand the smell of it on my self. Then Black Opium happened. Originally, when it hit the shelves, I couldn’t stand the smell. But I received a sample of Black Opium Glowing and it, to me, smells completely different. I am a little bit obsessed with it. I am becoming far more impressed with heavier scents.

Avon Silicone Beauty Sponge:

I was curious about this because I was really falling out of love with my beauty blender, they are just so high maintenance! Now, this was sold to me on the pretence that it doesn’t absorb any product as you are using it. This is true. It holds the product on the outer layer, but does not get absorbed into the sponge, meaning it can literally be wiped clean after use.
Halo Top…

So I couldn’t resit including this in my post. I have a soft spot for good ice cream. I just had to jump on the band wagon. OMG! I was not dissapointed. I am, however, now avoiding them since they have gone back up to £5 a tub, which I feel is a bit steep.

Tarte “Tartiest” Lip-paint:

It has taken me so long to get around to using this product! I got this as part of my Birthday free gift from Sephora back in September, however it was put into a pile of samples and never been used until recently. It is safe to say that I am well and truly in love with this product! The full size product over here is between £11 and £15, which to be honest I don’t think is awful for a product of this quality but it has definitely got some competition in my eyes.
Barry M Matte Me Up “Bespoke” lip kit:

I discovered these when I saw a post by the incredible Zoe London, I just knew I had to invest in one. I had to purchase my primer so I thought I’d invest. There’s a very specific range of colours that they have released at the moment but I did notice that they are doing metalic options too. I fell in love with this colour straight away! It’s brilliant quality and super good value because you get the liquid colour and lip liner for £6.99! It is super durable and well lasting, it also doesn’t give you the under lip smudge when eating and doesn’t mark cups/glasses. I will definitely be investing in some more of these!

I hope this has been interesting to you guys, and I would love to hear your views on any of these products if you have tried them
