Here We Go Again… Version 2.0

Hi guys!

So here we are again, with another what I’ve been up to/where I’ve been post.

Life has been crazy. I’ve been sorting my life out, reading a lot, thinking about my life long goals and trying to rediscover my love for writing.

I’m thinking of reassessing what I write about. Yes, I love beauty and make up, but I’m not entirely sure that is where my writing fits the best. On the other hand, I have always had a massive passion for reading fiction. A few months ago I joined a book club at work, and it is one of the best things I have done this year. I have also downloaded the Good Reads App. I have used this to set myself a “Reading Challenge” for the year. My initial target was 15 books for the year. As it stands I am already at 11 books for the year. As well as our book club books, I am reading 1-2 books extra a month. This is so much more than I have been reading over the past 12 months and it is so good for my mind. I cannot stress the positive impacts of reading enough!

I am hoping to start reviewing some of the books I have been reading, as well as looking more at the music scene as this is something else that I am missing massively! I’m super excited to get back into writing and music. I think part of the issue behind my lack of writing recently is due to the fact that I feel like no-one is reading my posts and that I feel like I can’t find my “place” (That sounds awfully cringe worthy, I know).

So this is basically an open letter to myself to say that eventually something will give, but I have to put the time in if I expect to ever gain the readership that I would like.

Here’s to a new version of the blog.

Music update

So music has always been incredibly important to me, literally for as long as I can remember. It’s always been my passion, my safe place. Back when I was 14/15 my aim was to end up in the industry, preferably as a journalist, now don’t doubt the fact that I would still love to end up there, but I got a little distracted from music.

I was, typically, given the talk every music student (geek) gets; “it’s important to have an education in case your music falls through” and I listened. Unfortunately I also gave up studying music at school (16) and privately (17) – I’m now 19.

So I had a plan, I pursued A-Level English Language and History so that I could hone my writing abilities whilst potentially keeping doors open for other careers (law and business management). I’m currently studying for my degree in history and theology because gosh, you have to be able to write.

I was sat in the library, studying away, and I was bored of every song on my ipod – so I decided to reach out to a friend for a new band to listen to (Sundara Karma) and the passion was relit from there.

For the past few weeks, whenever I’ve been in university I have been investigating the music front on youtube and google, looking for new/up and coming/under-rated bands and my goodness have I found some beauties, as well as some fabulous sources.

Just to list a few;

  • Sundara Karma
  • Darlia
  • Neck Deep
  • Foals (not really up-and-coming any more, I know)
  • Royal Blood (or these guys)
  • Modern Baseball
  • Trey Anastasio
  • All Them Witches
  • Be The Wolf
  • Caligula’s Horse (Can’t be a history student without finding their name hilarious – but I’m loving them)

I guess the past few years I was blind sided by academia and I stopped looking for new music, but I’m back with vengeance – I’m excited by music again and I would love the opportunity to write about the stuff I’m finding so please, help a girl out.

Feel free to recommend bands for me to check out (I’m mainly into Alt. Rock/Pop-rock/Indie but I’m pretty willing to listen to anything)

Thanks guys.
